Brothers dramatizes the conflict between the secular and religious and the responsibility of the Ultra-Orthodox to serve in the army. Told from the viewpoint of two estranged siblings, the film is a perceptive analysis of two political trends dividing contemporary Israeli society. These trends have parallels among emerging Arab democracies in Islamic countries and resonance in American politics over separation of church and state. The film leads to an exploration of the issues behind this timely topic.
