Jewish/Muslim Co-Existence
with Dr. Ron Duncan Hart

Travel Bug, 839 Paseo de Peralta

Morocco is an amazing Muslim country where Jews have lived for more than 2000 years. From the Spanish speaking north (Tangier & Tetuan) to the French central zone (Rabat & Casablanca) to the Arabic speaking south and the medinas of Fez and Marrakesh, Morocco is full of surprises and ethnic differences.

Seventeenth century Portuguese ports dot the coastline and Berber towns populate the Atlas Mountains. The urban sophistication of Rabat and Casablanca include French and Italian fashion, and, oh yes, Rick’s Cafe is a place not to miss. Jewish synagogues and kosher delis can be found in the larger cities, and Muslim and Jewish families have multi-generational working relationships. Jews speak Arabic, and Muslims study Jewish life. It is a special place. Cultural anthropologist, Dr. Ron Duncan Hart takes us on a journey through Morocco, visiting places that are familiar and those that are not, but all refracted through a different lens.
